Rex Preston was born in 1948 and is now established as one of the UK's leading landscape artists. He has been a professional artist for the majority of his working career after starting in 1969 following a brief spell as a print designer

The style of Rex's paintings and prints has evolved over the years. One thing that has not changed is the superb quality of his work and his determination to find interesting and challenging subjects to paint. Often Rex walks miles in all weathers searching for his subjects, which can be anywhere from Scotland to Cornwall. His passion is painting British landscape and loves to paint everything from the moody, mountainous landscapes of Scotland to the beautiful spring flowers on the cliffs in Cornwall. He is also drawn to the wild, unspoilt areas of the country, in particular the moorland areas of his beloved Peak District.

Talking about his art work Rex Preston says: 'I spend as much time as possible out in the countryside looking for subjects. When the weather allows, I paint on location in the landscape walking until something catches my eye. I find sketching is also very useful to record fleeting light effects and atmospheres. When I return to the studio, my sketch will remind me what really inspired me and together with my memory and imagination, will give me all I need to complete the painting.'

Although Rex Preston has used both watercolour and acrylic with which to paint, he always return to oils as his preferred medium.
