approach to Contemporary Art. He studied at Norwich School of Art before completing his Post‑Graduate programme at the Royal Academy Schools in 1997, where he developed the strong draughtsmanship and structural clarity that continue to define his work.
Thompson began his career as a figurative painter, producing portraits and observational pieces that demonstrated a rigorous command of form and tone. Since around 2022 his focus has shifted to a distinctive series of paintings centred on houses. In these works he often isolates a terraced house, removing it from its original setting and placing it alone. This approach gives the architecture a quiet psychological presence and a direct, unembellished visual impact.
Now based in London, Thompson has exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, with numerous solo and group shows. His paintings are held in private and public collections worldwide, including the National Portrait Gallery in London.
