Colin Carruthers is an artist in awe of and inspired by the grandeur of the natural world. He travels widely for his subject matter with many of his recent paintings a result of visits to the western coastline of Scotland and the Scottish Isles.

Colin Carruthers energetic approach to record the constantly changing coastline is very evident in this painting ''Sea Holly''. There is a sense of power and strength in the painting as the sea and clouds go about their business in a view looking towards Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower, Wales. Although there is a feeling of bleakness the plants in the foreground seem to give a sense of hope and determination regardless of the environment. The presentation as a framed triptych provides an extra panoramic dimension to the scene.

Colin says: ''Beyond simply looking at my paintings and gaining an aesthetic pleasure, I do think it''s important that they offer up space for thought" . Carruthers has certainly achieved this in ''Sea Holly''. The freedom of being at the coast is there for all to appreciate and contemplate.
