Bob Richardson (born 1938 in Salford, Lancashire) is an Read more acclaimed
British artist whose work is closely associated with
Northern Art. Celebrated for his refined pastel technique,
architectural studies and atmospheric European street scenes, Richardson is
represented by Red Rag Gallery in Bath, a leading gallery for
British Art.
After five years of formal study at art school, Richardson began his career in
advertising, developing a sharp eye for composition, structure and visual
storytelling. While in full-time employment, he enjoyed a series of successful
exhibitions and, in 1975, decided to become a professional artist. His delicate
but highly accomplished compositions, subtle application of colour and beautifully
balanced scenes have made him a respected name in contemporary
British Art.
Born in Salford, Lancashire, Richardson’s background firmly roots him in the
tradition of Northern Art. His architectural studies and street
scenes from around Europe often carry a quiet romanticism, combining the sensibility
of a British artist with the atmosphere of continental cities.
Each work demonstrates his ability to capture the onlooker through mood, light and
refined draughtsmanship.
Richardson is a proud member of the Pastel Society and has
regularly exhibited his artwork at major British Art shows,
including the Confederation of British Artists Exhibition and
the Mall Galleries in London. At the Confederation of British
Artists Exhibition in 1991, he received the prestigious Grand Prix
award, further cementing his reputation as a leading
British artist working in pastel.
