Painting: Rape Seed, The Cotswolds

Oil-Seed Rape creates such a vivid yellow glow in the June Cotswold countryside. Colin Carruthers has captured the colour and texture of rich farmland as we look down on the fields stretching out into the distance. The rich impasto used creates an almost three-dimensional landscape. Light clouds scud across a blue sky and sunlight picks out the yellow flowers in this oil painting of Cotswold landscape.

There is a sense of harmony is the painting. This is evident in the way the landscape merges with the sky in the distant horizon, but also merging rural seasonal colours. The viewer is left with a feeling of wonderment and timelessness.
