Rob Hain was born in Dorset in 1952. He graduated from Loughborough College of Art with a BA (Hons.) in Fine Art in 1977 and later moved to the Scottish Borders where the landscape proved a rich source of imagery for his work.
Rob Hain's paintings and art prints have been influenced a number of artists including: Lowry, Brueghel and Kandinsky, which reflect his interest in both urban environment and the kaleidoscopic range of colours of rural Scotland. Rob's fondness for the community reveals itself in the Lowry-inspired townscapes he paints whilst equally being at home with more abstract compositions. Through this approach Rob portrays not only the towns and landscape but the life of the communities in a visual ethnographical account. He is interested in the lyrical as well as the humorous. Hain believes that art should lift the spirit and the greatest compliment you can pay Rob is to smile at his paintings.
It was while running classes for artists from the Brothers of Charity and The Scottish Association for Mental Health that Rob Hain gained an insight into a different approach to art. He began to engage on a more immediate level and the resultant paintings and limited edition prints became increasingly intuitive and less staged. Expanding into new geographic locations, Rob Hain remains grounded by his love of his family and their support, the future is as vibrant and bright as his art.
Rob Hain's achievements include a Civic Trust Award for his work in the Italian Centre in Glasgow. His paintings have been exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) and Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) annual exhibitions. And, his original art works and limited edition prints are in art galleries throughout Scotland.
