Jack Vettriano

Jack Vettriano was born into a working class family in Methil, Scotland in 1951. He left school at sixteen to become a mining engineer. For his twenty-first birthday, a girlfriend gave him a set of water colour paints and, from then on, he spent much of his spare time teaching himself to paint.

Two major events shaped the future for Vettriano as an artist. Firstly in 1989, he submitted two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition; both were accepted and sold on the first day. The following year, an equally enthusiastic reaction greeted the three paintings, which he entered for the prestigious Summer Exhibition at London's Royal Academy and his new life as an artist began from that point on.

Today Jack Vettriano is a British artist with a huge International reputation. He is one of the worlds top print artists . His limited edition prints adorn homes and offices across the world. Vettriano produces art prints and limited edition prints of classic compositions and chic depictions. His art print 'The Singing Butler' is one of the world's top selling prints . Like many of Vettrianoâ's art prints it has the feeling of a snapshot of a love affair or a scene from an old movie.

Sell out exhibitions of Jack Vettriano's art works have taken place throughout the world. His most recent art exhibition, 'Days Of Wine And Roses', opened at the Kirkcaldy Museum in Fife, Scotland on 27 March 2010. More than 48,000 visitors were attracted to the art show over a five week period.

Jack Vettriano has been awarded several accolades during his career. He has been awarded an OBE, an honorary degree from St. Andrew's University, and has been featured in several television programmes including the recent charity event Sports Relief where he painted a portrait of Zara Phillips. Vettriano's limited edition prints are widely collected, and among his admirers are Jack Nicholson and Madonna.

Vettriano divides his time between his homes in Fife, London and Nice.
