Late Evening, Fortnum and Mason, Jermyn Street is a characteristic urban nightscape by Susan Brown, an award‑winning contemporary painter known for her bold architectural interpretations of European Read more
and British cities. The work captures the iconic Fortnum & Mason frontage at dusk, rendered with Brown’s distinctive interplay of structure, rhythm, and atmospheric light.
Brown’s practice centres on the relationship between architecture, movement, and human environments. Her cityscapes are not literal transcriptions but expressive reconstructions, emphasising the geometry, energy, and pulse of urban life. In this piece, the familiar façade of Fortnum & Mason becomes a study in glowing evening tones, shifting reflections, and the subtle drama of London after dark.
Susan Brown studied Three‑Dimensional Design at Leeds Polytechnic and has since developed parallel careers in interior architecture and contemporary painting. She has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Scottish Academy, New English Art Club, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Her awards include the Laing Art Competition, Hunting Art Prize (Regional Winner), the Penrose Purchase Prize, and finalist recognition in the Singer & Friedlander Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
