His work blends technical precision with a luminous, layered approach to colour, placing him firmly within the tradition of Contemporary British Art.
In this piece, McLoughlin captures the glowing warmth of autumn light along a quiet riverbank. His signature glazing technique—building thin, translucent layers of paint—creates depth, movement and a cinematic sense of atmosphere. The interplay of cool water tones with fiery seasonal colour is a hallmark of his river and stream paintings, reflecting his practice of beginning artworks on location before refining them in the studio.
Collectors value McLoughlin’s ability to convey mood, weather and shifting light with both realism and expressive energy. Autumn Along the River exemplifies this strength, offering a glowing, immersive work that celebrates the enduring beauty of the British landscape and the craftsmanship at the heart of modern British Art.
