of army service in Egypt, later returning to finish his art degree and continue developing his work as an artist. Although he spent many years working as a shoe designer, Robert King remained dedicated to painting, consistently producing new work and exhibiting across Leicester, London and internationally.
As a leading figure in British art, Robert King has exhibited at major institutions including the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute in London and the Paris Salon. His first solo exhibition took place in 1970, marking the start of a long and respected career as a professional artist. In 1976, he became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and in 1985 he was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists—further establishing his reputation within the world of British art.
In March 2012, Robert King received the prestigious Turner Watercolour Award for outstanding painting. This award, given through the Turner bequest and judged by the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Watercolour Society, highlights his continued influence and excellence as a British artist.
