He also continued painting in oils and acrylics, developing his strong and individual style. Now a full-time painter he works mainly in oil, producing paintings with a heavily textured 'impasto' texture.

Paul Robinson's paintings can be characterised by his whimsical sense of humour. Simple scenes such as 'Avril and Maureen' are given new significance by his painting titles or comments:

Avril and Maureen always held hands
When they walked along Jetty Street.
They found the sight of the busker called Mary
Rather unpleasant, and really quite scary.
