Seascape Art by Michael EWART British Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Michael Ewart was born in 1940 in the village of Felton in Northumberland and lived there until he married in 1966. After progressing various occupations Michael Ewart eventually found his niche in 1972 and started teaching. Ewart worked in this profession for 30 years, but continued a lifelong passion for art by painting whenever the time allowed. Now retired from teaching, he has embarked on a second career as a professional artist. Michael Ewart has had no formal art training - but Ewart's studies of past masters, especially 20th century English painters, is evident in the way he has developed as a contemporary artist. He has taken inspiration from artists such as Sickert, Coldstream and Pasmore who have influenced the way in which he has developed. In the last few years Michael Ewart has developed a very distinctive art style and palette. His use of colour creates an almost nostalgic, romantic feeling throughout his work. The appeal of Ewart's paintings is obvious in the numbers sold at Red Rag British Art Gallery where he has regularly shown since 2003. As a result he has an increasing number of British and International art collectors who admire and collect his contemporary paintings Michael Ewart paints exclusively in oils. Ewart feels the medium allows him to explore the feel of the subject. Typical subjects for Ewart are people set against a backdrop of everyday places such as railway stations, cafes, libraries and British Art Galleries. More recently Ewart has started to paint Marine paintings. In addition to Red Rag British Art Gallery Michael Ewart has exhibited at other leading British Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Michael Ewart artist studio and like all Red Rag British art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to British artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of British painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the British artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture.
