Cornwall has been John Piper's home since 1963 and still a great source of inspiration for his contemporary paintings. John has been profoundly influenced by the Cornish countryside and his paintings reflect the affinity that Piper has with such wonderful natural surroundings.

The loose and slanting brushstrokes used by John Piper in the painting 'Red Autumn' parallel the direction of the wind and show how closely man has to accommodate nature to survive in such a rugged environment.
