Seascape Art by Colin CARRUTHERS British Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery Northern Irish artist Colin Carruthers builds up textural art depicting landscape paintings and seascape paintings which are intended to convey the ever-changing aspect of nature. Having had an affinity with nature since childhood, it was incontrovertible that he would be drawn to paint anything else. Natures raw beauty is Colin Carruthers most powerful inspiration, within which he feels liberated and intrinsically drawn to put brush to canvas. Colin Carruthers makes frequent trips to the coast and countryside, both in the U.K. and across mainland Europe, which has deepened his appreciation of natures diversity and beauty, and energised him to create contemporary art and paintings that are fresh and ever evolving. More recently artist Colin Carruthers has focused his creative attention towards his love for the light and atmosphere of Provence and the Cote dAzur, France. The Cote dAzur has long attracted artists and creators who were inspired by the natural beauty of the region; Monet arrived there in 1885, followed by a host of painters including Cezanne, Van Goh, Matisse, Chagall and Picasso. It is no co-incidence therefore that like the painters that have gone before him, Colin Carruthers has become fascinated with the clarity and light encapsulated within the beautiful blue skies and landscape of Le Midi. The distinctive Aleppo Pines, so typically Mediterranean, often now feature in his French coastal paintings, along with many familiar wildflowers that grow in the hilltop villages of Provence. In addition to Red Rag Art Gallery Colin Carruthers has exhibited in other art galleries in the UK and has modern art work in numerous private and public art collections. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to British artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of British painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the British artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture. or CALL RED RAG NOW on 01225 332223 or outside the UK +44 1225 332223.
