Art by Stephen John OWEN
The Old School House - Yr Hen Ysgol British Art and Artists at Red Rag Gallery The raw beauty of the Welsh landscape, with its winding roads leading to smatterings of rubble-stoned cottages, dramatic coastlines and mountainous countryside, isnt lost on Stephen John Owen. 1 of 9 and from humble beginnings, Stephen John Owen allowed his passion for art and the inspiration of the landscape around him, to elevate him to success in the art world. Despite being self-taught, his work can now be found in private collections across the globe and he is renowned for selling out a show. Initially encouraged by his aunt, he still works with her pallet knife and brushes today, providing him with a daily reminder to work with that very same childlike joy that she instilled within him at the start of his creative journey. Stephen John Owen tends to use a limited pallet for each of his paintings, selecting colour based on his own mood and the emotion he wants to convey behind the work. With his ability to narrow down pallet, select, outline and simplify shape, Owen highlights and creates space for the viewer to see the true allurement of the places he paints and loves. Simplicity seems to be a theme, not only with the work but the artist himself: I see things how they are, and I paint them as such. However what isnt simple, is the evocative response, people seemingly so far removed from the Welsh landscape, are still able to have to his work. This is the Seascape art page from Red Rag British Art Gallery featuring the best in contemporary British art. Throughout the year Red Rag features British art from artists who specialise in creating fine Seascape paintings. Today is no exception you will find Red Rag British Art Gallery has an extensive collection of Seascape art and paintings by leading contemporary artists. Human beings have always had an intimate relationship with the water. Given the amount of the earths surface which is covered in water and the often unpredictable and life-changing nature of the sea, it is little wonder that seascapes have been such a popular subject for so long and no surprise that seascape paintings have an important place in the history of art. Seascape paintings have a long history in both the Eastern and Western worlds. The walls of homes have been adorned with seascape paintings since the art of the secular painting first began to overtake religious works in numbers and importance. As a country with an extensive coastline, paintings of seascapes have always had a special attraction to British artists. All the seascape paintings at Red Rag showcase the talent of British painters and their ability to depict changing light on water and rapidly altering climatic conditions. Many of the British artists who have painted these seascape paintings are also talented landscape painters, or worked in other genres as well as seascapes, such as still life or portraiture. or CALL RED RAG NOW on 01225 332223 or outside the UK +44 1225 332223.
