Painting: Low Light Over Moss Hill

Norman Smith uses soft colours to show us the effect of warm sunlight illuminating a wooded glade. Norman Smith modern art work is predominantly in pastel, a medium which is suited to gradations in colour used to depict the changing moods of the landscape.

Norman’s technique is to apply solid patches of pure colour in thick layers that create a heavy textured effect, treating this medium much like oil paint. This gives the art work greater depth and perspective.

’Low Light Over Moss Hill’ draws the viewer into the scene with its long grass and warm sunlight.
