Modern Art: Peter Burgess

Peter Burgess was born in 1952 in St Albans. He studied at Watford School of Art, Wolverhampton Polytechnic, Wimbledon School of Art, BA (Hons) and Royal Academy Schools, PGCE RAS .

Peter Burgess paints in a graphic and very distinctive way. Using strong colour and capturing light and shade are key features in his paintings. Peter creates striking images with enduring appeal.

Peter Burgess contemporary paintings are held in numerous public and private art collections in Britain, Europe and USA. These include: the Contemporary Art Society, commissions for Nottingham City Council, Leicestershire County Council, The Boots Company plc and a number of museums and hospitals.

Peter Burgess has won a number of art prizes: for work submitted to the 'Spirit of London' exhibition at the Royal Festival Hall, The Spectator Art Competition, Derby City Art Gallery 'Silver Palette', The City Gallery, Leicester, Hunting prize Competition, Royal College of Art and the Patchings Art Centre prize. In 2007 Peter Burgess art work was commended as part of the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize.

Peter Burgess has enjoyed great success at many solo and group art shows and his paintings are in collections worldwide. As well as exhibiting at Red Rag Gallery Peter Burgess art work is widely exhibited both in many British and International galleries.
